The pharmacy intern will support the department in the provision of pharmaceutical care while acquiring the required skills and experience needed to become a licensed pharmacist. Essential Functions:
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the pharmacy intern:
- Obtains new prescription and prescription refill information from the patient, the health care provider, or pharmacy information system.
- Accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from the computer.
- Dispenses, compounds, and distributes pharmaceutical products.
- Solicits information on medical history from the patient, health care provider, or computer system.
- Provides drug information and advice to the patient or health care professional.
- Counsels patients on appropriate prescription and over the counter drug use and storage.
- Provides excellent professional customer service.
- Operates a cash r! egister.
- Assures compliance to all regulatory rules a! nd regulations and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures to include but not limited to:
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
- State Boards of Pharmacy.
- HIPAA.
- Principles of Responsibility.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- No years of work experience required.
- Pharmacy student status enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy and is attending classes in the first year of professional study required.
- Licensed or registered as a pharmacy intern in the jurisdiction where employed as required by the applicable jurisdiction's regulations.
- Stand for long periods of time, frequent stooping, bending and reaching.
