The University of Maryland, Baltimore invites nominations and applications for the newly created position of Chief Development Officer /Vice President and President and Chief Executive Officer of the UMB Foundation, Inc. Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Development Officer and Vice President (CDO/VP) will serve on the executive leadership team and provide extraordinary vision, strategic direction, and entrepreneurial management for the Office of Development. The University of Maryland, Baltimore was founded in 1807 along a ridge in what was then called Baltimore Town. Today, this 61-acre research and technology complex encompasses 65 buildings in West Baltimore near the Inner Harbor. The University is Maryland's only public academic health, human services, and law center. Seven professional and graduate schools train the majority of the state's physicians, nurses, dentists, lawyers, social workers, and pharmacists. Under the leadership of President Jay A. Perman, MD, the University is a leading partner in the redevelopment of the west side of Baltimore. The University of Maryland BioPark, which opened in October 2005, promotes collaborative research opportunities and bioscience innovation. The University community gives more than 2 million hours a year in service to the public. This position will define and drive development strategy and policy across the university. The CDO/VP will be responsible for (1) creating and overseeing development standards policies, metrics and best practices, (2) management and administration of development activities on campus, (3) working with the President and senior leadership to develop and implement innovative approaches to cultivation, solicitation and stewarding of major and leadership gifts. The CDO/VP also serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, with over $200M in total assets and a vibrant board of philanthropic and community leaders. . Having just completed a widely participatory strategic planning process, the University is poised to focus and invest in its philanthropic enterprise. Newly defined campus-wide goals and priorities in interdisciplinary research, interprofessional education, entrepreneurial development and public service provide a rich platform for major university-wide fundraising initiatives. Each of the School’s solid experience in fundraising creates a basis from which a new leader can help build each School’s development capacity, in close collaboration with each of the Deans. This position is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned fundraiser with an entrepreneurial mindset to develop a basic fundraising existing program into a premiere national one. Minimum requirements include 10 years of related experiences, including leadership, management, and administration of a Development Office at a higher education or equivalent institution in progressively responsible positions and at least five years of the ten years experience at a level equivalent to assistant dean, assistant vice president, or vice president. This person is required to have demonstrated success in an equivalent setting and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. The CDO/VP should be a thought leader in the profession and have a passion for the missions of the University.
