PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Monitoring! Research Program (CMRP) provides clinical research support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases' (NIAID) Intramural Clinical Management and Operations Branch (ICMOB) within the Division of Clinical Research (DCR), located in Bethesda, Maryland.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Pharmacist (CP) provides direct pharmaceutical care, serving as a drug information and patient education resource and assisting with the monitoring of patients enrolled in the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) research clinic. The CP is responsible for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical support to in-patients and out-patients in a clinical research environment and demonstrating primary leadership and management on complex pharmaceutical tasks. Other responsibilities include lecturing and facilitating discussions with infectious diseases fellows, medical residents and nursing staff on HIV pharmacother! apy; serving as liaison between the clinic staff and the pharm! acy department, as well as between researchers and the Pharmaceutical Development Service; and reviewing the writing and formulary write-ups of new antiretroviral drugs. Additionally, the CP assists with the coordination of the Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Antiretroviral Treatment Guidelines revision process, participates as a non-voting observer to the guidelines panel and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students, residents and fellows. This position is located on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Qualifications

: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education-accredited College of Pharmacy or equivalent clinical experience is required.
  • Current professional license (from any state in the U.S.) to practice pharmacy.
  • Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • In addition to ! educational requirements, a minimum of 1 (one) year clinical experience with post-graduate training and/or experience in HIV and HCV research or clinical care.
  • Demonstrated professional ability in negotiations, community building, problem interventions, team concept and complex systems issues.
  • Knowledge of clinical research concepts, ethics, processes and protocol implementation and management for pharmaceutical in/outpatient drug therapies.
  • Ability to function independently and/or collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Demonstrated highly effective problem-solving, planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to manage complex research programs in a large institutional setting.
  • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
  • Applicant would be in contact with patients and would observe standard blood and body precautions.
  • Vaccinations would be required and determined by Clinical Center pol! icies.
  • Enrollment in Occupational Safety and Health Standards ! (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) medical surveillance/training requirements and seasonal flu vaccination required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of clinical information technology systems is highly desired/recommended.
  • Completion of residency program, teaching, committee involvements, clinical information technology and/or research.
  • Clinical guideline development, formulary management and pharmacy databases.
  • Active participation in the development and/or execution of clinical research protocols as an associate investigator is highly encouraged.
