Hematology Anticoagulation Management Service in the Division of! Hematology and the Pharmacy
Anticoagulation Clinical Specialist. Supports physicians and pharmacists to ensure that patients
remain compliant with their clinical protocols and that patient files are current. Assist with compliance
of clinic protocols and interpret operating policies of the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns
Hopkins Hospital. Exercise independent judgment in the resolution of administrative problems.
Represent the Director and the Division as appropriate in communicating professionally with faculty,
administrators, staff, and external contacts. This position reports directly to the Director of the Hematology Anticoagulation Clinic with a
reporting relationship to the Pharmacy Anticoagulation Clinical Specialist to ensure smooth and
efficient functioning for the department as a unit.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure patient files are up-to-date, and include an individualized copy of the Anti! coagulation Clinic
Protocol, signed by the medical directo! r and labeled with the patientâs identifying information and start
of care date, in the patientâs medical record. Participate in performing periodic self-audits of records to
Ensure all required documentation is maintained in the medical record. Assure all patients have an
Annual order and protocol in the patient chart. Review all patient files to ensure each patient has been
seen within 4- 6 weeks for clinic visits. Send patient letters to all patients in need of scheduled visits.
Send certified letters to noncompliant patients. Send correspondence to referring physicians regarding
the patients in need of orders and/or non compliant patients. Calculate clinic statistics. Create and
modify documents using Microsoft Office. Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited
to: photocopying, faxing, mailing, telephone services and filing. Maintain hard copy and electronic
filing system. Pull all inactive files and send to stora! ge. Support staff in assigned project based work.
Request outside medical records.
Other duties required as assigned by the Anticoagulation Service (inpatient and outpatient).
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Two years secretarial experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Final applicant for this position may be required to complete skills assessments appropriate to position description.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
