The Division of Medication Error Preventi! on and Analysis (DMEPA) in the Office of Medication Error Prevention and Risk Management, Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology at the Center for Drug Evaluation and research is recruiting a pharmacist, nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or others with patient safety experience to serve as a Safety Evaluator at our beautiful new campus in Silver Spring, MD. At the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), you can make a difference in protecting the health of the American people. CDER serves as the consumer watchdog of America’s healthcare system by making sure that safe and effective drugs are available to improve the health of consumers and that prescription and over-the-counter drugs, both brand and generic, work correctly and that the health benefits outweigh known risks.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of Safety Evaluators responsible for the prevention and surveillance of medication errors associated with prod! ucts which are regulated by the Center for Drug Evaluation and! Research. Pre-approval and post-approval, Safety Evaluators use post-marketing data, human factors engineering and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in assessing the potential for the nomenclature, labeling, packaging, and design of products to contribute to errors.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Positions being filled as civil service or U.S. Commissioned Corps require U.S. citizenship. Permanent U.S. residents may apply for Staff Fellowship appointments in physician and scientist positions. Graduates of foreign colleges/universities must provide proof of U.S. education equivalency certifica! tion.

Basic Requirements:
General Health:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements.

N ursing: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. In addition, applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attai! ned.

Pharmacist: Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmac! y recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
