LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The pharmacist in this classification is required to conduct inspections with a high d! egree of expertise seeking to ensure that legally established standards and regulations are maintained for all in-state pharmacies and wholesale distributorships (establishments ) by engaging in managerial work supervising statewide inspections performed by four regional Inspectors of the Board of Pharmacy Compliance Unit This is accomplished through providing on going training, supervision and overseeing complicated reviews of opening, annual and closing inspections, follow-up visits, and inspections as requested in cooperation with Board inspections or joint investigation with the Division of Drug Control, Food and Drug Administration, Drug Enforcement Administration, or other state, local or federal government agency. The pharmacist confers with establishment permit holders to interpret all applicable regulations and to develop solutions to problems of conformance. The pharmacist provides a combination of technical assistance and regulatory direction to establishment per! mit holders. The pharmacist will spend most of their time prov! iding leadership and doing fieldwork and professional judgments and evaluations of adherence to required practices under the Maryland Pharmacy and Wholesale Distributorship Practice Acts and may be required to provide testimony and recommendations to keep up with the technological and health systems changes impacting on the profession. The pharmacist in this classification receives direct supervision from the Pharmacist Compliance Manager, and general supervision from the Executive Director. Work is evaluated through conferences and inspection reports in terms of the completeness, timeliness and quality of inspection reports and effectiveness of recommendations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Pharmacist or two years of experience dispensing and compounding prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceutica! ls for patient care at a State facility.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
