In accordance with the Mission of the Mount Carmel, t he pharmacy technician III will assist the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Routine technician functions are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. These functions may include unit dose dispensing, intravenous admixing, inventory control, record keeping and billing, and extensive use of equipment and automated technology. Additional responsibilities include special projects as assigned by managers, assists with purchasing, develops staffing patterns and assignments for other technicians, prioritizes work responsibilities, and precepts and trains newly hired technicians.

High school graduation or equivalent with skill in mathematical man! ipulations, Required competency in mathematical manipulations ! ,Basic knowledge of computers with demonstrated keyboard skills, Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program or previous relevant pharmacy technician experience is required, Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, Database (Excel) skills preferred. Ability to follow procedures and work in a closely supervised area, Ability to relate to other people and work well in a group environment, Ability to plan workflow and direct technician staffing patterns, Pharmacy Technician Certification, Expert knowledge and work experience in operational area(s) and or Pharmacy technology, Specialized knowledge in high tech areas of the pharmacy, Project management experience/ Team project management experience

Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician III in the area of Purchasing will provide patient care by assisting the pharmacist in the process of inventory management. Expectations of this position include purchasing, receiving, rota! ting, pricing and maintaining PAR levels of inventory, managing controlled substances, and managing and updating the bar-coding system. Additional responsibilities include receiving and communicating recent information on drug shortages, recalls, and back orders. Record-keeping, contract compliance, project work assigned by management, and training other technicians and interns in the area of purchasing are also expected

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in hospital and/or retail pharmacy preferred
  • Expert knowledge as well as work experience in the area of purchasing and inventory management
  • Proficiency with internet-based applications, word processing and Excel spreadsheets is preferred
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician
Excellent communication skills

Essential Responsbilities
  • Inventory management - placing and receiving orders from primary and secondary wholesalers, direct through MCH Purch! asing, and online supply management
  • Coordination of annual inv! entory; maintenance of PAR levels; communication with vendors; assisting in contract compliance
  • Coordination of recalls and communication of back orders and shortages to pharmacy leadership team
  • Payment of bills and management of paperwork on receiving - resolving errors, forwarding to A/P, filing within the department; coordination of record storage
  • Completing price updates and unpriced orders, Interdepartmental Billing; non-formulary requests and reports; floor stock orders for various departments such as Radiology, Dietary, ER, etc.
  • Assists in managing and updating bar-coding system; rotating stock; responsible for outdate processing
  • Controlled substances mangagement - placing and receiving orders; compliance with controlled substance guidelines and policies
Responds to requests from management for information on costs, usage, etc.
