The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works for the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health (Center) as part of its infectious disease prevention team. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) has responsibilities and duties related to patient care and a clinic environment under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Will perform various technical tasks as directed. Works together with the Center’s field and Baltimore-based research team to assist in the development, coordination and delivery of field-based public health services. Based at one or more of the C! enter’s field sites in Arizona and New Mexico and is supervi! sed by the Research Nurse Supervisor. The Center has a mission to work in partnership with American Indian tribes to raise the health status and self-sufficiency of American Indian people to the highest possible level. This mission is accomplished through three core activities: research, service, and training. The goals of the infectious disease prevention projects are to evaluate the impact and efficacy of research projects aimed at improving health outcomes for Native American families and communities. Study data results will focus on public health outcomes specific to the approved protocols at the worksite. Project activities include significant field-based travel by car and extensive study documentation completion. Attention to detail is required. Under the supervision and direction of the Nursing Supervisor will serve as a Licensed Practical Research Nurse for the Center’s field-based infectious disease prevention projects. Specific responsibilities may include, but ! are not limited to: Comply with University and Center daily work policies and procedures. Assure efficient, complete and accurate implementation of all aspects of multiple study protocols. Interact on a regular basis with Johns Hopkins faculty and staff members to administer the clinical components of research programs. Work daily in a team setting with physicians, pharmacists and nurses within the Indian Health Service facilities and collaborating hospitals and clinics where our programs are located. Daily decision-making regarding organizational aspects and logistics of study protocols. External contact with members of the research study sponsoring agency, independent research monitors and ancillary Center staff. Screening of eligible participants for participation in research and service projects. Administering informed consent. Completion of computer data entry, compilation and timely submission of summary reports as assigned, accurate record-keeping of all study partic! ipant data, enrollment of study participants; appointments of study par! ticipants, monitoring of clinic visits and hospitalizations of study participants, chart reviews, home visits, specimen collection and processing, interviews and study subject follow-up. Administering of immunizations and study product. Adherence to administrative guidelines for vehicles, supplies and other project property. Travel to and perform home and hospital-based visits as required by the study protocols. Collection and processing of specimens per study protocol and site policies. Data collection, chart reviews for document accuracy and processing as needed. Transportation of and delivery of services to enrolled study participants as directed by field-based Investigators, Supervisors and Coordinators. Provide follow-up services to individuals as outlined in the study protocol. Facilitation of community-based meetings and events as assigned including the presentation of study approval requests, project progress and goals achieved. Work with the rest of the study team ! on duties related to the general conduct of the study and participate in staff meetings to review project goals and protocols. Travel to field-based training meetings on a regular basis with overnight travel as needed. Travel to other field sites for intermittent or long-term duties as site needs dictate. Assist with the other Center-wide programmatic duties as needed. This description is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. Qualifications:
Nursing license in the state that the position is located, be part of the Nursing Compact, or have a 90 day temporary license issued by the state where they will be working prior to their start of employment required. Strong organizational, supervisory and data management skills and experience. Efficient and detail-oriented. Independent learner and worker. Flexible and adaptable. Ability to effective! ly multi-task. Self motivated and driven. Excellent professional judgme! nt and discretion. Good oral and written communication skills, including public speaking with large and small groups. Ability to operate a telephone, printer, fax, copier, and computer with software use experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Power Point. Ability to drive a project vehicle as needed and to supervise guidelines on vehicle use. Ability to follow and oversee worksite guidelines on personal and work cell phone use. Ability to work well with others. Ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback in the workplace. Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required. Ability to travel with overnight stays required as needed. Some evening, weekend and holiday work may be required. Will be required to be on-call on occasion as site needs dictate which may require reporting to work when the site offices are closed. Will maintain current Nurse licensure and CPR certification. Will maintain background clearance as r! equired by the employer and any collaborating agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of one year of nursing experience. Research experience. Venipuncture and specimen collection experience.
